WHY BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY?

MY OWN SELF LOVE JOURNEY TO BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY

I entered into the photography world when I was a teenager. Back then, I was a teenage with big dreams of becoming an international model. Although the modelling gigs took me to incredible places – magazines, major runways, and even all across Asia, it ended up leaving a negative impact on my relationship with my body.

The fancy magazines and runway shows masked a toxic culture that did the opposite of making me feel beautiful. The constant body shaming, weight shaming and trying to live up to “society’s” standard of beauty was impossible to handle long term. So after I returned from Asia I decided to get out of the industry as I knew my confidence would continue to suffer if I continued.

When I started up photography myself, I promised never to dive into portraits of women as I was traumatized from my own personal experience being in front of the camera. My photography career kicked off with capturing the newborns, maternity and family portraits. With my own daughter recently born, it was a heartfelt connection that really filled up my cup.

But, as my daughter grew, so did my calling for something more. The idea of boudoir and portraits of women began to inspire me. But, what if the women in front of my lens didn't like their photos? What if I added to their negative self-image, a feeling I knew all too.

Fast forward to three years ago, and I decided it was time to face my fears. After five years of self-love work, transforming how I saw myself and my body, I was ready for a big celebration. I created a portrait that captured my resilience, strength, and courage during this transformative journey. It became my absolute favourite, so much so that I blew it up and proudly hung it in the studio. It wasn't just a personal reminder but a story I wanted to share with my clients.
